Alabama Beaches Welcome Return of Hurricane Taekwondo Championship

11/10/2009

GULF SHORES and ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - Approximately 250 of the South’s top martial artists will soon gather on the Alabama Gulf Coast for the 2009 Hurricane Taekwondo Championship. Now entering its 16th year, this competition will be held at the Conference Center at The Wharf on Saturday, November 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Since this Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission event is a fundraiser event for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an all-day raffle for gift certificates, retail items and beach apparel, all of which were generously donated by local businesses. Also, proceeds from the silent auction of Alabama and Auburn memorabilia, samurai swords and other collectables will be donated to the foundation.

“Last year, we donated over $1,000 to this worthwhile cause,” said Mike Morris, tournament host. “We are looking forward to generating even more money this year to help out the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.”

Admission to this event – which features competitors ranging from 3 to 70 years old – is $3.00 for adults while children 5 and under will be admitted free.

Near the end of the month, the Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission will welcome these upcoming events: Kaiser Realty Coastal ½ Marathon and 5K Run (November 28) and the Gulf Shores Christmas Basketball Tournament (December 18-19).
