Stinky Perfume Tops Christmas Wish List at AL Gulf Coast Zoo

11/20/2009

– So your aunt’s nose isn’t what it once was, and you are now the proud owner of a perfume (or cologne) that takes your breath away – and not in the good kind of way. Pass on those undesirable scents, and make a big cat or wolf’s day at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, which recently released its annual Angel Tree Animal Wish List.

From frozen chicken to sardines or toddler toys to silk greenery, the animals’ requests might deviate from the normal Christmas stocking stuffers but the donation of these items will help “The Little Zoo That Could” offset operation costs as it builds its new zoo facility. Stop by the gift shop at Gulf Shores-based zoo, and select an animal from the tree on display.

Also, avoid the long department store lines, and spend some quality time on a special Santa’s knee. Sandy Claws will make his annual return visit to the zoo’s Christmas party starting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 5. Intended for children age 10 and younger, this party is perfect opportunity to capture a Kodak moment ideal for the upcoming holiday cards but remember to bring the camera. Until his sleigh runs out, Sandy Claws will be handing out gifts to the children and will be serving refreshments. Admission for children age 10 and under is free when accompanied by a paying adult. Free admission will conclude at the end of the party, which is noon.

Finally, streamline the search for that perfect gift, and browse the zoo’s gift shop in person or online at www.alabamagulfcoastzoo.com. Items range from clothing for all members of the family to coffee mugs to a coveted DVD collection of “The Little Zoo That Could” Limited Collector’s Edition 4 DVD boxed set, which captures almost 14 hours of the primetime Animal Planet series.

The zoo is open every day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admits the last guest at 3:30. Admission is $10.00 for adults (ages 13-54), $8.00 for seniors (55+), and $7.00 for children (ages 3-12). Children 2 years of age and under are admitted free of charge. For more information, please call 251-968-5731 or visit www.alabamagulfcoastzoo.com.
