    		    <title>Share The Beach License Plate Design Gets Approval</title>

    			    <p>Residents throughout the state of Alabama now have an easy opportunity to support the efforts of Share the Beach, Alabama’s volunteer sea turtle conservation program. The State of Alabama has given Share the Beach conditional approval for a specialized automobile tag (see photo). The “condition” is that at least 1,000 people must commit to purchasing the tag, and pre-pay the $50 specialty license plate fee, before the tags will go into production. Proceeds from the tag, will go directly to Share the Beach, providing much needed funds for equipment, supplies and educational materials. </p>

This figure represents a 34.5 percent ($17.9 million) increase over July 2007 ($51.9 million), which is the previous benchmark year. On a similar note, gross retails sales for July 2011 ($94.8 million) also saw an increase of 17.9 percent ($14.3 million) over July 2007 ($80.4 million).  </p>

On a similar note, gross retails sales for June 2011 ($82.2 million) also saw an increase of 6.8 percent ($5.2 million) over June 2007 ($77 million).  </p>

More than $64.9 million was spent in lodging rentals for spring 2011 (March – May), which is 12.7 percent higher than spring 2007 ($57.6 million). Incidentally, May 2011 finished 22.2 percent ahead of 2007. When comparing year-to-date figures, the area is currently 14 percent above the same period for 2007.</p>
