In The Year Of Alabama Small Towns & Downtowns, There's No Place Like Gulf Shores For The Holidays.
Whether you grew up on the Alabama Gulf Coast or simply wish you did, don't miss the 2010 winter holidays in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. This year, Gulf Shores has dedicated its annual “No Place Like Home For The Holidays” to the state's celebration
of “The Year of Alabama Small Towns & Downtowns.” This free event will honor the local history, people and natural wonders with a full schedule of yuletide activities and spectacular holiday displays.
At 6 p.m., on Thursday, December 2, the event kicks off with the 30th annual lighting of the Christmas Tree at the Erie Meyer Civic Center. From 6:20 until 8 p.m., the City of Gulf Shores is hosting free Open Houses in four city facilities, all with refreshments and entertainment. At the Civic Center's Open House, Santa will be visiting with children on the portico – don't forget to bring cameras to snap pics of Santa in his sleigh. Another Open House at the Gulf Shores Museum will feature Mrs. Santa Claus telling children's stories. Two additional Open Houses will take place at the Thomas B. Norton Library and the David L. Bodenhamer Recreation Center. Other highlights include a Gingerbread House Contest at the library, the Bodenhamer Holiday Village, moonwalk bouncers, crafts for children, and more surprises.
