Sporting Fun the Second Weekend in September
The second weekend in September is going to be a busy one for the Gulf Shores Orange Beach Sports Commission and we can't wait for the fun to begin. On Saturday, September 12, softball fans, triathletes, runners and soccer enthusiasts will all find something to their liking as we welcome four events to the Alabama Gulf Coast.
First up that day is the 5th Annual Super Slugger Co-ed Softball tourney, which will bring in teams from all over the Southeast for a piece of the action at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex. Head on over to cheer on your favorite team as they vie for the title!
If you are more of the participant type, the Brett Robinson Alabama Coastal Triathlon will also be bringing some heated competition to the beach in Gulf Shores. The triathlon will start with a 1.5k swim in the Gulf of Mexico, then a 40k bike ride, and end with a 10k run. Afterwards, triathletes will be treated to a post-race party at The Hangout.
Another event to partake in is the Relay for Life 10k & 5k Run/Walk at The Wharf in Orange Beach. Wear your favorite team colors as you run or walk for this great cause. The run will start at 8 a.m., immediately followed by the Festival of Hope, which will include a live band, food and much more.
The final sporting event of the day will score a goal with elite girls soccer. The 2015 Publix Super Cup Soccer Tournament will start on September 12 and end the following day. Fans of the sport of soccer will get a kick out of seeing these young ladies showcase their talents on the field.
So what is there to do after the sporting events are over for the day? How about following the cowboys as they head to the Flora-Bama to lasso some Bulls on the Beach. Sports fans are in for an adrenaline rush as they watch both riders and bulls hitting the sand. It promises to be a high-energy event which will feature professional bull riders from across the Southeast including the stars of the new reality TV show on National Geographic Channel, “Dukes of Cattle.”
Who's coming to town for this action-packed weekend?
