Food sport is serious (and delicious) business, and to be a judge at the 2017 World Food Championships, you have to eat like a pro. Seriously. There are criteria. It takes training. It takes dedication. And it may take elastic-waist pants. But if you’re up for the challenge, the pros at the World Food Championships are ready to show you the ropes. The reward? Successful completion may earn you a spot at the judging table for one of the 10 categories of competition at the Nov. 8-12 event in Orange Beach.
So what category do you have your eye on? Is it bacon? (Did we hear you sigh?) Barbecue, Burger, Chili, Seafood, Dessert, Sandwich, Recipe (Chicken), Steak and World Chef Challenge are all on the ballot, too.
To earn judge status, you’ll need to register for the Food Champ Judging Class held Nov. 7 at The Wharf. The kitchen classroom experience is hosted by a certified food sport pro who takes you through the World Food Championships’ proprietary E.A.T. Methodology. Judges learn to rate dishes on three key criteria: Execution, Appearance and Taste. Upon successful completion of the class, you’ll earn a Certified Food Champ Judge Gold Card.
Space and tickets are limited – because who doesn’t want to judge a contest featuring world-class chefs and home cooks?
