The park's grounds include the site of the last major battle of the Civil War, including several miles of unspoiled Confederate and Union fortifications associated with the Battle of Fort Blakeley of April 9, 1865; the site and remnants of the important early Alabama town of Blakeley; colonial era homesteads, and evidence of American Indian habitation from the Archaic, Woodland, Mississippian, and Historic periods. This Gulf Coast gem of the Alabama State Parks system boasts 6,500 acres of protected lands. We’ve got 2.5 miles of beach, three fresh water lakes, a nationally recognized scenic nature trail, beach pavilion, Gulf fishing pier, picnic area, campground, cabins and cottages and, in late 2018, a new 350-room gulf-front lodge and conference center. Our nature center has permanent exhibits and seasonal programming. Twenty-seven miles of paved/enhanced trails wind through the park and the 496-site campground has improved and primitive sites. At 1,540 feet long, 20 feet wide and boasting 2,448 feet of fishing space, we are the largest pier on the Gulf of Mexico and Alabama’s only public pier on the Gulf. There is covered seating for concession area and indoor retail shop with tackle and souvenirs. Signs along the pier share information on native fish, birds and other area wildlife. There are comfort stations at the midpoint of the pier and wheelchair accessible rail fishing. Fishing licenses and sightseeing permits are sold on-site. More Info More Info
