Carnivorous Plant Hike

Alabama is home to 30 species of carnivorous plants and ranks number one in the nation for pitcher plant diversity. Carnivorous plant bogs are among the most biologically rich and ecologically unique habitats in the southeastern United States. These remarkable ecosystems provide a home not only to fascinating carnivorous plants, but also to a diverse array of other plant and animal species.

This round-trip walk will be approximately 2 miles on mostly flat terrain. Portions of the trail are paved, while others may be muddy or pass through tall grass. For your comfort and safety, we recommend wearing tennis shoes, long pants, and bug spray. Don’t forget to bring water!

This program is great for all ages!
