Unique Fall Adventures
Gulf Shores & Orange Beach
Everyone has a good idea of what they want to do during a summer beach vacation—beach, pool, repeat. However, fall on the Alabama Gulf Coast is the ideal season to explore different avenues of fun and adventure, thanks to smaller crowds and milder temperatures. We've rounded up a great list of unique activities to experience on Alabama's Beaches this fall.

1. Watch the Blue Angels from a Sailboat
Sail Wild Hearts offers a variety of sailing adventures, from dolphin cruises and sunset sails to the ever-popular Dolphin and Blue Angels Sailing Adventure. The latter boasts an exciting opportunity to see practice flights of the nation's most elite fighter pilots, the Blue Angels. You'll drop anchor in Pensacola and have a front-row seat to the fantastic feats just overhead. Don't forget to look down during your excursion, too, as you'll also have the opportunity to spot dolphins bobbing in and out of the waves.

2. Explore Gulf State Park by Segway
Explore the natural beauty of Gulf State Park on a Segway tour through the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail. Certified operators with Coastal Segway Adventures begin each tour with a safety lesson and practice ride. Riders must be at least 12 years old, and a signed waiver is required. It's an exciting way to look for native wildlife, including eagles, tortoises, and even alligators within the park. Take in the peaceful lakes and lush greenery on a Segway for a new adventure.

3. Reel ‘Em in on a Fishing Charter
The Alabama Gulf Coast is home to one of the largest charter fishing fleets in the Southeast. Trips range from half to full days and overnight stays. Charter boats allow large parties, small groups, and even individual bookings, so you can bring your whole gang along. Inshore and nearshore trips are great for beginner anglers and children and typically last four hours, while seasoned anglers will want to opt for an overnight charter. Most charters allow you to bring food and drinks on board and provide guests with rods, reels, and bait. After your trip, one of our many cook-your-catch restaurants can prepare your catches for one of the most memorable (and freshest) seafood dinners you've ever experienced.

4. Get Wild at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo
The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo in Gulf Shores is the first ZAA-accredited zoo in the country and is home to dozens of unique, wild animals. If you've ever wanted to pet a sloth or play with lemurs, you can fulfill your dreams here as this fabulous zoo offers up-close animal encounters. The zoo also boasts a giraffe feeding station, a large playground, a zipline, and lots more fun. Don't miss dining at Savanna and chow down on refreshing salads, delicious seafood, and a full bar.

5. Cruise Our Waterways on a Pontoon Boat
Cruise through the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico at your pace with a pontoon boat. With a pontoon, you're the captain, which means you'll have the opportunity to explore the area's back bays, coves, islands, and more hidden gems. Most boats can fit 10 people, so you can bring your whole crew along. Be sure to bring drinks and snacks or pull up to any waterfront restaurants along the shores to grab a bite. Whether you want to spend the day swimming, fishing, or just soaking up some rays, you'll have a blast renting a pontoon.

6. Explore Historic Fort Morgan
The comfortable temperatures of fall make it an excellent time to visit Historic Fort Morgan. This third-system masonry fort was built in the early 1800s and has stood tall through numerous wars. It most notably played a crucial role in the Battle of Mobile Bay. Adults and kids will love exploring the fort's tunnels, barracks, and batteries. A climb to the top of the fort offers a fantastic view of the water and an aerial view of the grounds. After walking around the fort, stop by the museum to learn more about the lives of soldiers during the Civil War.

7. Take a Nighttime Kayak Tour
The fun doesn't end in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach when the sun goes down! If you're still up for more adventures after dark, book a nighttime "Crab Grab" tour with Sea View Tours. You'll embark from the Caribe Marina with a guide and paddle out to Bird Island on a clear, neon-lighted kayak. Once you've reached the island, you and your crew will hunt for ghost crabs in the sand. Be sure to pick up sea turtle-friendly flashlight covers from our welcome centers before you go!

8. Go Mini Golfing
Why not add a little friendly competition to your beach itinerary? Grab your gang, head to one of the many mini-golf spots in the area, and put your putt-putt skills to the test. Each course has its own unique spin on this vacation pastime, and many even have other amenities like arcades and snacks

9. Plan a Picnic
The comfortable weather during the fall makes this time of year perfect for a picnic on the beach or in the park. Pack your own snacks and drinks, or let Southern Charm Picnic Co. do the work for you. These pros take care of set up and take down and have everything you need for a cute and memorable picnic.

10. Put the Pedal to the Metal
If you’ve got a need for speed, The Track Family Fun Park is the place for you. You’ll have a blast zipping around on the go-kart tracks. After you’ve finished racing, take a spin on the Sky Coaster or hop into one of the bumper boats. There’s something fun for everyone here.
