Best Brunch Spots at the Beach

Gulf Shores & Orange Beach

When I travel, brunch is one of my favorite meals to eat out! It gives me a “legitimate” excuse to sleep in since I don’t have to provide breakfast.

Shrimp and Grits at Brick & Spoon

When I travel, brunch is one of my favorite meals to eat out! It gives me a “legitimate” excuse to sleep in since I don’t have to provide breakfast.

Moms, you know what I mean! After brunch, I’m guaranteed a few solid hours of fun in the sun without having to do more than provide a few water bottles and snacks. Brunch, for beach dining, is the perfectly timed meal.

Where to dine is as important as when, and in Orange Beach, Alabama there are many wonderful options. Here they are in alphabetical order (because I really couldn’t pick a favorite)!

Another Broken Egg

This is not your typical brunch place. You’ll love all the fresh ingredients and culinary creations. Located at 25910 Canal Road, Suite K in Orange Beach, Another Broken Egg offers great coffee, breakfast staples and Seasonal Creations and Sensible Selections (healthy options). Also, you can ask for allergy or gluten-free menus as well as children’s menus. If starting your day with Southern-style biscuit beignets, eggs benedicts or gourmet omelets sound tasty, then Another Broken Egg might be for you!

Brick & Spoon

I ate at Brick & Spoon, located at 24705 Canal Road in Orange Beach, on my first trip to Alabama’s beaches. Talk about setting a high bar! The restaurant is well known for its flavorful twist on Southern brunch classics — like shrimp and grits made with fire-roasted corn grits. I could go on about the brunch menu and the Build-Your-Own Bloody Mary menu, but instead I’ll just recommend that you make reservations and enjoy a leisurely brunch served with a side of kindness.

Buzzcatz Coffee & Sweets

BuzzCatz Coffee and Sweets

Located at 25689 Canal Road in Orange Beach, BuzzCatz is a budget-friendly bakery and more. The restaurant serves daily breakfast specials and light lunch items to eat in or to go. Of course, with a name like BuzzCatz Coffee and Sweets, I recommend a cup of their locally roasted coffee and a homemade pastry. When you stop in, ask them where the name comes from! It’s a funny story, best told in person.

Kitty’s Kafe

Located at 3800 Gulf Shores Parkway, Suite 100 at The Pelican Place at Craft Farms in Gulf Shores, Kitty’s serves omelets, biscuits, breakfast burritos, pancakes and more, daily. Be prepared for delicious menu options served with a hefty dose of Southern hospitality.

Ruby Slipper Brunch

Ruby Slipper Café

If you like eggs benedict, look no further than the Ruby Slipper Café, located at 24151 Perdido Beach Boulevard in Orange Beach. The menu features six unique and delicious eggs benedict. If you’re like me, though, and can’t decide on your favorite, choose the Peacemaker, which lets you pick two flavors! Of course, if you aren’t in the mood for an egg benedict, the menu also offers a number of other delectable dishes. Here’s a tip: Order the French Toast Batons as a brunch appetizer for the table! They’re fun to eat and tasty, too.

The Southern Grind Coffee House at Indigo

Located at 22843 Perdido Beach Boulevard, Orange Beach, The Southern Grind is the second location for owners Jim and Jaime McPhillips. The couple wanted a relaxed place where people could gather for great food, coffee, gelato and snacks — and they’ve got it. Both locations are light and airy, decorated in soft ocean blues and greens — a gathering place for visitors and locals alike. The menu is extensive and includes many healthy options. My personal favorite is the Avocado Egg Melt, especially if I wash it down with a small gelato!

The Southern Grind Coffee House at The Wharf

Located at 4751 Main Street, Suite 116, Orange Beach, the coffee shop offers the same great menu and both restaurants provide pet-friendly outdoor seating.

Sunliner Diner Breakfast

Sunliner Diner

Sunliner Diner, located at 100 East 2nd Street in the heart of Gulf Shores, transports guests back to the 1950s with this cozy diner-style eatery. Listen to rock-n-roll while noshing on a fantastic chicken and waffle benedict, a sunrise biscuit and gravy or avocado toast. And, no hurry, they serve breakfast all day long!

Woodside Restaurant at Gulf State Park

Woodside, located at 20249 State Park Road, Gulf Shores, offers a scrumptious myriad of breakfast sandwiches, omelets and old favorites you’ll love. All menu items are cleverly named (Beach Mouse Trail Breakfast Sandwich, Armadillo Trail Biscuit “N” Gravy, Muscle Shoals Omelet just to name a few), and you can eat them in the main dining room, outside on screened porch or under the shade of a tree. Also, enjoy some backyard games, a gift shop and a general store.

Every time I visit Orange Beach, one of these restaurants (or maybe more than one) makes the “must-eat” list. Having someone else prepare the meal while I sip freshly roasted coffee (or mimosa) is a real treat! It sets the mood for a relaxing day. Isn’t that how life at the beach should be?
