1,500 baseball, softball teams expected in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach this summer

GULF SHORES AND ORANGE BEACH, ALA. – As a more “normal” summer for Gulf Shores | Orange Beach Sports & Events comes up to bat, athletic events dominate the lineup from June through August 2021, including more than 1,000 baseball teams for the Perfect Game Gulf Coast World Series and approximately 500 softball teams for the USSSA Fastpitch National Championship.

“We are expecting to welcome a record number of baseball and softball teams along with their coaches, families and fans in tow, which will be a tremendous boost to the local economy,” said Michelle Russ, vice president of sales, sports and events for GSOB Sports & Events. “After all that 2020 brought – from a pandemic to a devastating hurricane – we feel blessed to showcase our coastal communities to these event travelers."

The Perfect Game Gulf Coast World Series, formerly branded as the USSSA Global Sports World Series, will hold eight tournaments at the Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Foley Sportsplexes as follows:

• Series 1: June 9-13
• Series 2: June 15-19
• Series 3: June 22-26
• Series 4: June 29 to July 3
• Series 5: July 6-10
• Series 6: July 14-18
• Series 7: July 21-25
• Series 8: July 28 to Aug. 1

Just as businesses throughout the country have faced staffing shortages, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are no different. Teams and families are encouraged to take advantage of on-the-go dining options and plan ahead for fun in the sun. The Wharf, host location of the Perfect Game World Series opening ceremonies, says families are invited to hang out between games at the entertainment complex for a variety of attraction, shopping and dining options.

“We are thrilled to host the Perfect Game Baseball World Series and USSSA Softball National Championship opening ceremonies,” said Sheena Mizell, marketing and public relations director at The Wharf. “We love seeing these families visit The Wharf each year while in our area playing sports, and we invite them to come enjoy our So. The USSSA Fastpitch Recreation Series will take place July 8-10 followed by the USSSA Fastpitch National Championship July 11-17 and July 18-24 at Gulf Shores Sportsplex. Other events taking place throughout the summer include the Paradise Island 5K (May 30), the Gulf Coast Region Beach Series Grand Championships (July 10-11), the Dream All-American Series (Aug. 6-7) and Alabama’s Strongest Man (Aug. 14).
