Get Your Hands Dirty with a Pottery Lesson at the Coastal Arts Center

Build it, throw it or paint it at the Clay Studio at the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach. Express your creative side and take home a handmade souvenir.

Resident ceramics artist Maya Blume-Cantrell offers instruction in clay hand-building, wheel-throwing and painting. Several tecQW4lNPkzKtEe2Z2d9rqQ_1i9deLIhNs2FAKspq5CU8chniques are taught during the hour-long class. Would-be potters who want to get their hands in the clay can do so for $50 an hour for hand-building, $65 an hour for throwing on the pottery wheel and $20 and up to glaze premade pottery. Call ahead for pricing changes and to schedule your pottery sessions.

Classes, private parties and field trips to the Clay Studio are available. The Clay Studio is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Since you’ll need to allow 24 to 48 hours for a painted piece to dry, be sure to schedule your Clay Studio excursion during the beginning of your beach vacation. Should you have to make the trek home before it’s ready, the Coastal Arts Center will happily ship your pottery if you. Sculpted pieces take one to three days to dry and one to two days to fire in the kiln. Allow another one to two days to fire in the kiln if you return to paint your creation.

Experience a whole new state of creativity during your beach vacation on Alabama’s white-sand beaches at The Clay Studio.
