Whether it’s a parade, concert or play that puts the holiday zing in your step, find it here on the Alabama Gulf Coast. For many, that zing comes from an annual tradition that just gets keep getting brighter: Bellingrath Gardens and Home’s Magic Christmas in Lights featuring more than 3 million twinkling lights on 1,000 set pieces.
Enjoy one of several parades, including the one in Gulf Shores on Dec. 4 at 6:30 p.m. and the Lighted Boat Parade on Dec. 12 at 5:30 p.m. traversing from LuLu’s in Gulf Shores along the Intracoastal Canal. Travel a few miles north on Alabama Highway 59 to Foley for its annual Christmas in the Park on Dec. 4 for carol-singing, cocoa-sipping, the lighting of the Christmas tree and a visit from Santa Claus. Be in Foley again on Dec. 5 for a fun time featuring games, obstacles, story-telling and a lot of snow.
Make a play date and attend one of the performances of “A Christmas Carol” at South Baldwin Community Theatre. Shows begin Dec. 4 and continue through Dec. 13 with Friday and Saturday shows at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Adding to the meaning of the classic story is the addition of well-loved Christmas carols.
Keep your eyes trained on the skies Dec. 12 when Santa Claus drops in for a visit on the folks at the Flora-Bama Lounge and Oyster Bar. Food, treats, pictures with Santa and other fun activities are on the agenda following Santa’s landing on the sandy beaches of the Gulf of Mexico.
