Five Sweet Treats That'll Make You Come Back to the Beach
Vacation is the time to indulge
There are plenty of restaurants in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach — many of them locally owned with lots of great food. Fresh seafood. Check. Locally sourced cuisine. Check. It’s all here. But, let’s be honest. Vacation is the time to indulge. Am I right?
Fisher’s Dockside (Downstairs)
27075 Marina Rd #100, Orange Beach
The white chocolate coconut bread pudding here is simply divine! Chef Bill Briand’s recipes are passed down from his mom, and the homey quality really comes true. Lighter and fluffier than a traditional bread pudding, topped with toasted coconut and whipped cream, it’s the perfect dessert to savor with a cup of coffee.
Matt’s Homemade Ice Cream
1308 Gulf Shores Parkway and 701 Gulf Shores Parkway, Gulf Shores
On our first visit to Gulf Shores, the first place we stopped was Matt’s Homemade Ice Cream. The shop, which is the only one to offer homemade ice cream on the beach, is scrumptious. So much flavor! After a long day at the beach, this is a great place to go!
25405 Perdido Beach Blvd. Suite 22, Orange Beach
Beignets are not just for New Orleans, y’all. Café Beignet, a little “hole in the wall” place in a shopping center, is the perfect place to start the day with a warm, pillowy treat — this is the place to go. They offer traditional beignets, buried in mounds of powdered sugar, served with plenty of napkins! And they also offer vanilla and chocolate pudding filled beignets for something a little different. Take note, they only accept cash.
208 W Fort Morgan Rd, Gulf Shores
One of the best things about a Gulf Shores and Orange Beach vacation is the number of condos and beach homes available! But, I’ll be honest. It’s not vacation if I’m in the kitchen cooking every day. That’s where Sarah’s Homemade comes in. They prepare meals (and desserts) to carry out, but back to dessert! Sarah’s makes desserts, too. And the key lime pie is a great one, sweet, creamy and tangy — just perfect. Bonus, a whole pie is only $12!
And then there’s one I can’t wait to try! It just opened on May 19 — and I haven’t been back to Gulf Shores yet to try it myself. But, I have seen their creations on Instagram, and I know I’ll be making a visit the next time I go to the beach. Without further ado….
The Yard Milkshake Bar
3800 Gulf Shores Parkway, #330, Gulf Shores
Serving incredible milkshakes, edible cookie dough (the kind you don’t have to bake — oh yeah) and other ice cream confections — all of them unique — your taste buds will be happy. Decorated in the popular farmhouse style, milk shakes are served in mason jars. One is even topped with a slice of cheesecake. No kidding! They’re on to something here, and I can’t wait to try it. Just not on Mondays, because they’re closed.
And there you have it, my favorite sweet treats in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach from breakfast to dinner and even in between. I’m sure you’ll find the perfect treat to satisfy your sweet tooth, too!
