Top Reasons to Enjoy a White (Sand) Christmas

Gulf Shores & Orange Beach

Christmas is coming and now is the time to plan your memorable white (sand) Christmas in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Warm family memories will be made as you leave the white, fluffy snow and head to the beautiful beaches along the Alabama Gulf Coast.

Ice Skating Rink at the Wharf in Orange Beach, AL

The Wharf in Orange Beach is all decked out for the holidays, including an ice-skating rink, giant Christmas tree, horse-drawn carriages and more Christmas lights than you can count. It’s also common to find Santa throughout the area. The Wharf offers onsite condos as well as an onsite hotel, Springhill Suites by Marriott, to keep you close to the festivities. I’ve stayed at The Wharf condos, and they offer spectacular views of the happenings in the dining and shopping district. I can only imagine how festive it will be during the holidays! There are plenty of other condos, hotels and even beach houses located nearby, too.

Local restaurants feature Christmas décor as well as flavors of the season. It’s also important to note Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are home to several award-winning chefs who know how to wake up your taste buds. Let someone else do the cooking as you embrace the holiday season. After all, you are on vacation to enjoy the beautiful beaches and shopping rather than spend time in the kitchen. My personal advice is to order the bread pudding at every restaurant that offers it, as I have found the bread pudding along the Alabama coast to be the best anywhere.

Christmas Lighted Boat Parade

The second Saturday in December is when the annual Christmas Lighted Boat Parade is held. This beautiful parade travels the Intracoastal Waterway Canal and offers about three hours of entertainment. Find your spot along the parade route and take in all the sights and sounds of Christmas. It truly is a remarkable spectacle to see so many boats motoring down the canal adorned in holiday lights!

The Hot Shop at The Coastal Arts Center in Orange Beach offers an opportunity to make a special Christmas gift for yourself or someone else. If you’ve never had a hands-on lesson in the art of glass-blowing, this is your chance! In fact, it may be one of my most memorable experiences at the beach.

One terrific perk of enjoying a white-sand Christmas is that the beaches are quiet and uncrowded. Take a stroll on the beach when sunset rolls around and you may get a glimpse of Santa delivering a package or two. Most importantly, reflect on the season and enjoy your white-sand Christmas in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
