Chef Olive began his culinary career in Birmingham after attending Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. Olive studied under renowned chef George Reis as the sous chef and helped his restaurant Ocean acquire several honors during his time there. Since then, Olive himself has received numerous accolades, including winning the Southern Breeze Gulf Coast Cook-Off in 2008, Zatarain's Annual National Shrimp Festival chef challenge in 2009 and 2013, the Wine Spectator Award in 2009, 2010, and 2011, and the Grand Tasting Winner, People's Choice, and Best Use of Ingredients awards at The Wharf Uncorked in 2014.

In 2023, he won the 8th Annual Alabama Seafood Cook-Off at Zeke's Restaurant, which led him to compete in the 2023 Annual Great American Seafood Cook-Off in New Orleans. There, Olive was crowned the King of American Seafood, winning this year's event. His winning dish was a gafftop catfish smoked over scrub oak, flash-fried mole crabs with Gulf shrimp horseradish cream, pickled purslane, and smoked paprika coral tuile.
