The holidays are special on Alabama’s beaches!

Why not plan a long weekend or use some of that coveted vacation time for a trip to the beach for some yuletide festivities? For a complete list of 2018 holiday activities, visit our Coastal Christmas page. But look below for a few highlights to get you into the holiday spirit.

In its 23rd year, Bellingrath Gardens Magic Christmas in Lights is a Gulf Coast holiday tradition. The dazzling light displays feature more than 1,100 set pieces, three million lights and 15 scenes across the 65-acre garden estate! Also, the Bellingrath Home is fabulously decorated with poinsettias and other holiday finery. Guests will enjoy nightly (Sunday through Thursday) choral performances on the South Terrace while sipping hot chocolate (available for purchase). Military personnel and their families are encouraged to come for Military Monday discounts (Nov. 26; Dec. 3, 10 and 17). Santa will be there for photos and the gift shop will be open for shopping. An award-winning holiday event, Magic Christmas in Lights will delight your family and quickly become a tradition.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

South Baldwin Community Theatre

Who doesn’t love the classic animated television special “A Charlie Brown Christmas”? The South Baldwin Community Theatre brings the holiday tale to life in a stage adaptation where Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the Peanuts Gang discover the true meaning of the Christmas season. 

City of Gulf Shores 9th Annual Lighted Christmas Parade
Dec. 7, 6:30-9 p.m.
Gulf Place Public Beach

Come and enjoy lighted floats as well as holiday character appearances, marching bands and the like as crowds of spectators adorn themselves in holiday spirit. The parade route is along Highway 59 from Gulf Shores Public Beach to Sims Park where a nighttime celebration will continue.

Annual Christmas Lighted Boat Parade in Gulf Shores AL

The 33rd Annual Christmas Lighted Boat Parade
Dec. 8, 5-8 p.m.
Free admission

More than 45 decorated vessels will participate in the Coastal Alabama Chamber of Commerce Lighted Boat Parade that begins at LuLu’s Homeport Marina and journeys to Flora-Bama. Enjoy seeing sailboats, charter boats and maybe even a kayak or two during this holiday event. The best group viewing spot is at The Wharf at Orange Beach, adjacent to the event center.

The 34th Annual Christmas Through the Ages
Dec. 8, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Admission: adults (13+) $8, children (5-12) $4; children 4 and under are free

Christmas Through the Ages is a living history day at Fort Gaines and perfect for families. Experience Christmas of yesteryear and join soldiers and their families as they celebrate a non-commercial Christmas. Children who are visiting will be able to make a seashell ornament as well as other decorations.
