Race days at the beach just hit different, especially when they include coastal breezes and sugar-white sands. Dive into warm Gulf waters, ride through scenic trails, and run along the shoreline. The Brett/Robison Alabama Coastal Triathlon is a spectacular Gulf-front competition on Alabama’s Beaches that is open to all experience levels and racers over the age of 13.

The triathlon begins and ends on the beach in front of The Hangout, an iconic Gulf-front restaurant in Gulf Shores. Parking is available at several lots at Gulf Place Public Beach.

Racers can choose to participate in the sprint or Olympic distances. The sprint includes a 300m swim in the Gulf, a 12.4-mile flat bike ride, and a 2-mile flat run. The Olympic race is the standard distance and features a 1.5K swim, 24.8-mile bike ride, and 6-mile run.

The Brett/Robinson Alabama Coastal Triathlon offers several ways to compete, including swim-bike, bike-run, and relay options, in addition to the traditional single-racer triathlon. Teams can race in two-person or three-person relays.

Awards are given to top finishers in numerous categories, including age, gender, individual, bike-run, aquabike, relay, para-triathlete, distance, and overall.

The race isn’t over when you cross the finish line. The Hangout throws an amazing post-race party with cold drinks, delicious food, and live music, all in an upbeat atmosphere on the beach. All racers receive food, drinks tickets, a t-shirt, and a swag bag. Friends and family can watch the race at The Hangout and enjoy vendor booths, food and drinks, live music, and a sign-making station.
Triathlon Schedule
The event kicks off on Friday with registration and bike check-in from 4-6 pm at The Hangout. Additionally, race organizers are holding a competition overview and Q&A at 5 pm for first timers or racers who want to learn more about the course. Registration continues Saturday morning from 5:30-6:30 am. All bikes must be in the transition area by 6:45 am.
The race officially begins at 7 am with the Olympic swim start, followed by the sprint swim at 7:45 am. Awards for the sprint racers begin at 10 am, while Olympic distance awards are given at 11 am. All participants must finish by 12 pm.
