Tips on Prepping for a Pet-Friendly Vacation
Does Fido go where you go? Gulf Shores and Orange Beach both have options with dog parks and pet-friendly lodging, where man’s best friend is welcome.
How do you make your next beach getaway the perfect one for your pet? Read on!
First things first: Find a place to stay. Search the lodging section for pet-friendly options; select the “Pet Friendly” option in the lodging search box. You’ll also find pet-friendly events and attractions on our website. Dogs, on a leash, are welcome at Fort Morgan, Graham Creek Nature Preserve and Fort Gaines Historic Site.
Because pets are not permitted on the beaches, there are numerous dog parks that provide you the opportunity to let your pet play and enjoy the great outdoors. The Gulf Shores Dog Park welcomes both small and large dogs to its fenced area on Clubhouse Drive. The Dog Pond at Lake Shelby at the Gulf State Park offers a relaxing place for your dog to play and frolic on land or in the water. Dogs must be leashed while entering and exiting, and off-leash dogs must be under the voice command of their owners.
In Orange Beach? Take your pooch to the Orange Beach Waterfront Park, which also welcomes pets to its fishing pier, picnic shelters, paved walking paths and lighted kids’ park. Pets must be on a leash. The Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail also offers the opportunity to explore Alabama Gulf Coast flora and fauna in the company of man’s best friend.
