A Shopping Tour of Alabama’s Beaches

Tanger Outlets in FoleySo you have some extra time on your hands during your beach vacation . . . and the shopping bug bites. The first thing to know is Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are more than just the beach. Those 32 miles of white-sand beaches may have brought you here, but the dozens of specialty shops and big-name retailers is what’ll keep you busy on your shopping spree.

Let’s start with the big-box retailers. Whether you’re on the hunt for housewares or designer labels, you’re covered with stores like Bed, Bath and Beyond and T.J.Maxx located at the Tanger Outlet Center in nearby Foley. Speaking of outlet shopping, the Tanger Outlet Center boasts more than 120 stores, including Old Navy, Nike, Coach, White House/Black Market and Polo. You may need to add an extra day to your vacation if you’re an avid outlet shopper!

Pelican Place ShoppingShopping centers offer a one-stop shop, with stores and dining all in one place. Head to Pelican Place in Gulf Shores and satisfy your inner bookworm at Books-a-Million. Follow it up with a stop at The Yard Milkshake Bar for a milkshake like none you’ve ever had before. The crazy concoctions are topped off with your favorite desserts such as a slice of cheesecake or a cupcake. At SanRoc Cay in Orange Beach, make your own bath bombs at Harmony Creek Farm and then refuel at one of several restaurants. Make your way to The Wharf, also in Orange Beach, and pick up something fun at Bungalows. Top off your day with dinner at one of The Wharf’s restaurants, including the marina-front Ginny Lane Bar & Grill.

SanRoc CayWhen you want to visit smaller, specialty boutiques, talk to the locals to find out their favorite shops. To get you going, check out Geez Louise Boutique. It’s a sorority sister’s dream store and a mom’s haven for fun sun hats and Lilly Pulitzer. Just down the road in Orange Beach, stop by Tallulah’s Treasures for unique home décor, ladies clothing, and pieces by local and regional artists. When you want something a little out-of-the-box, swing by The Happy Olive, where you can experience and learn about premium olive oils and vinegars.
