ART TALK: What Does Independence Mean to Me?
Starting: 06:30 PM
Join us at Mobile Museum of Art for an evening of reflection on the power of creative expression and the diverse narratives that shape our shared history.
In 1974, the Kent Bicentennial Portfolio challenged twelve artists to interpret the concept of independence without restriction. The results ranged from celebratory to critical, capturing the immigrant experience, the struggle for voting rights, and the complexities of American history. To honor this collection, we invite you to a dynamic panel discussion moderated by Dr. Kern Jackson.
Our panelists Soynika Edwards-Bush, Frank Ledbetter, Mobile County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood, Wanda Sullivan, and Tony Wright will bridge the gap between these iconic artworks and our modern community. This group of local leaders, celebrated artists, and educators will explore how the meaning of freedom has evolved and what independence looks like in our world today.
