Best Ways to Celebrate the 4th of July on Alabama's Beaches

Will you be heading to the Alabama Gulf Coast for a sporting event on or near our nation's birthday? Combining the 4th of July with the beach means you'll be a winner.

Historic Fort Morgan, AL

How about starting the day with a thrilling run at the Flora-Bama Lounge & Oyster Bar? At 7 a.m., the (2-mile road/2.5-mile beach course) will feature participants wearing a Velcro flag football belt while being chased by “sharks.” In conjunction, the all-beach 1-mile Adventure Run will have a similar setup. Arriving at the finish line with at least one flag means you'll be eligible for an award. Sign up and join in on the fun!

History buffs will definitely want to head to the Fort Morgan Historic Site to witness the Salute to American Independence. While wearing U.S. Army uniforms from different eras of the fort's occupation, historical interpreters will take you on a special guided tour. These tours will be conducted throughout the day between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. In addition, artillery, small arms and other presentations are scheduled. Please note: There will be no fireworks at this event. You may decide you would rather just grill out at your gulf-front condo or beach house, or you may prefer dining out at a restaurant on the beach. One thing is for sure: Being near the sparkling white sand and brilliant blue water is sure to add some red-hot fun to your holiday!
