The Gulf Coast’s Greatest Beach Party & Mullet Toss
Gulf Shores & Orange Beach
Flora-Bama’s Annual Mullet Toss and Gulf Coast’s Greatest Beach Party is back for another fun year.
Flora-Bama’s Annual Mullet Toss and Gulf Coast’s Greatest Beach Party is one of the biggest and most exciting weekends on the beach. What started as just a reason to get together and have fun turned into one of the largest beach parties on the Gulf Coast. The highly anticipated 2023 Mullet Toss is happening April 28 through 30, right on the beach at the legendary Flora-Bama Lounge & Oyster Bar.

The mullet toss brings people from all over to Flora-Bama to watch and participate in this entertaining event. On all three days, participants compete from 10 am to 4 pm to see who can throw a dead mullet (the fish, not the hairstyle) the furthest over the Florida and Alabama state line. All ages can partake as the competition is divided into categories by age and gender. Prizes and bragging rights are awarded to the winners of each category. It costs $15 to participate, and all tossers receive a t-shirt.
Complimentary chairs will be available on the beach to sit and watch the competition. Chairs are first come, first serve, so we suggest bringing a blanket or towel to sit on just in case. Guests can hang out inside Flora-Bama and grab food and drinks throughout the event. Sit back, relax, and sip on a cold, creamy bushwacker as you watch the fish fly!

In addition to throwing dead fish, this weekend-long beach party includes lots of entertainment. Head inside and enjoy live music, great food, a men’s hot body contest, a bikini contest, and weekend-long appearances from local celebrities. Be sure also to check out the event sponsors' tents for swag and special drinks.
The party doesn’t stop when the tossing ends at 4 pm. Winners are announced at 4:30 daily, and then the Flora-Bama keeps the fun going. Stay after dark to enjoy more live music and delicious drinks. Please note that only those over 21 are allowed in Flora-Bama after 6 pm.

A contribution of each thrown fish goes to local youth charities. Each year, the event raises over $40,000 for organizations helping local schools and drug prevention programs on both sides of the state line. After the event, the tossed mullets are donated to Alligator Alley in Summerdale for the alligators to eat.
