Learn about the updates at the 5 Rivers facility in Spanish Fort. The property has recently been leased to the Alabama Wildlife Federation (AWF) and renamed the Delta and Bay Conservation Center at 5 Rivers. The facility is currently undergoing renovation, including the buildings and trails, and will offer school field trips, day camps, and homeschool programs, as well as be open to the public. It will also be available for hosting business meetings and events.

About Scott:
Scott Bannon is the Director for Alabama Wildlife Federation (AWF) Delta and Bay Conservation Center (DBCC) at Spanish Fort. Alabama Wildlife Federation, established in 1935, is the oldest and largest conservation organization in Alabama. DBCC is dedicated to educating youth and adults about wildlife, forests, fish, waters and soils in the Mobile Delta and Bay.
Scott has been working with AWF since August of 2025. Prior to that he was the Director of the Alabama Marine Resources Division (MRD) of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR). He served as the MRD Director from 2017 to 2025 and had worked for the division for 28 years before his retirement in July 2025. He began his career as a municipal police officer before becoming a Conservation Enforcement Officer. He held the positions of officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and Chief of Enforcement. In 2006, he was selected as the Alabama Wildlife Federation Officer of the Year for actions taken during Hurricane Katrina, 2014 recipient of the Order of the Purple Heart Award for bravery for actions taken in historic flooding in Baldwin County and was the 2020 AWF Fisheries Conservationist of the Year.
Scott has also retired from the US Coast Guard after serving 30 years in active and reserve capacities. He achieved the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer (E9). He has served as a boarding officer, boat coxswain, Underway Officer of the Deck, Conning Officer (ship driver), navigator, and Command Master Chief. He has been stationed in Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Alabama, serving on three patrol boats, 2 small boat stations, the Naval Academy Prep School, Port Security Unit and Sector Mobile. Additionally, he has deployed to operations in Cuba, South America, Mexico, Haiti and other Caribbean Islands.
Scott was raised in Shepherdsville, KY and resides in Mobile, AL. He is a graduate of Columbia Southern University and is an active member of First Baptist Church Tillmans Corner, where he teaches College Life Group, coaches soccer and basketball and participates in the drama ministry. He is married to Pamela and has 2 children, Brandon, a Special Tactics Major in the US Air Force and Bailey, an assistant manager for Sherwin-Williams Paint, and has 3 grandchildren.
