9 Ways to Spend a Rainy Day at the Beach
You’ve planned for weeks and months for your family vacation, only to find the forecast shows rain on the radar.
Mother Nature doesn’t always follow our recommendations when we sing “Rain, rain go away; come again another day.” But all is not lost. Remember that old saying that a rainy day at the beach is better than a sunny day at the office? With a little planning, you can still have the perfect day.
These nine ideas could make a rainy day just as much fun as a sunny one.
1.) Challenge your friends and family to laser tag.
Move the fun indoors and find your target under black lights at Arena the Next Level located at The Wharf in Orange Beach. With a theater, lots of covered shopping and a spa, The Wharf can satisfy rainy day cravings to get out of your room and have some fun in a variety of ways.
2.) Take home a souvenir handmade by you.
Let your inner artist create something unique at The Hot Shop or The Clay Studio in Orange Beach. You are encouraged to watch a glass-blowing demonstration even if you’re not ready to try your hand at this exciting art form.
3.) String something beautiful.
Have you ever wanted to make your own jewelry, but didn’t know where to begin? Stop by Blue Girl Beading in Gulf Shores for classes that include basic stringing to wire, metal work and intricate stitching with glass beads.
4.) Spend a day at the museum.
Do you wonder what it’s like to fly through the eye of a hurricane? Spend a rainy day at the Gulf Shores Museum and experience the Hurricane Hunters interactive display. Just a short drive from the beach is the National Museum of Naval Aviation. This museum offers more than 375,000 square feet of exhibit space with more than 190 restored aircraft. It’s a great spot to enjoy a rainy day, and admission is free. On the opposite side of Alabama’s beaches is the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center & IMAX Dome Theater. This playground for the mind boasts more than 150 interactive exhibits.
5.) Take in a movie.
6.) Jump, jump, jump around!
If you have kids in your entourage, expend some energy at The Factory Gulf Shores. More than 50 trampolines, a flight simulator and batting cages provide hours of active fun.
7.) Bowl for strikes.
In nearby Foley, pick your lane and have some fun with a game (or two or three) at Gulf Bowl. You’ll find a 2,500-square-foot arcade, multi-level laser tag arena, and full-service restaurant and snack bar. It’s everything you need for a rainy-day change of pace.
8.) Get a dose of suspense and mystery.
If you love a challenging real-life adventure game, sign your fellow vacationers up for a session in the Gulf Coast Escape Room, INC. Your team works together to find clues and solve puzzles to escape a room in 60 minutes.
9.) Go outside anyway!
Don’t let the rain keep you from having a great day at the beach! Sometimes running and playing in light rain can be just as much fun as a blue-sky day. But be sure to stay indoors if you hear thunder or see lightning.
