The Skinny on Fall’s Best Culinary Festivals
The Alabama Gulf Coast is packed with fun, fall culinary events that’ll bring out the foodie in us all.
Here’s the skinny on upcoming festivals filled with good eats in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
The 47th Annual National Shrimp Festival is scheduled for Oct. 11-14 on the main public beach in Gulf Shores. This event attracts some 300,000 folks each year looking for hours of live entertainment, scrumptious food from more than 50 local and regional vendors, lots of outdoor activities (including building sand sculptures), a Children’s Activity Village, arts and crafts vendors, as well as 5K and 10K races.
The Original German Sausage Festival will be held on Oct. 27 with free admission. In the South Baldwin town of Elberta, this 40-year tradition offers entertainment for children and adults, arts and crafts, carnival rides and a full-scale midway along with a Bier Garden and, of course, Elberta’s famous German sausage and sauerkraut. This semi-annual event has been spearheaded by Elberta’s Volunteer Fire Department since 1978. Fun fact: about 7,000 pounds of German Sausage are consumed at each festival.
