Helping Hands
in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach
The sense of community surrounding Alabama's Beaches is undeniable to anyone who lives here year-round. We see understated examples of this every day: a neighbor giving a child a ride home from school, a local picking up litter along the boardwalk, or a friend delivering a hot meal to new parents. Then, there are the moments when our community shows up in more public ways—organizing fundraisers for those in financial crisis, rallying to clear a neighbor's yard after a storm, or celebrating Mardi Gras with parades that wind through the heart of town.
For us, the beach isn't just a vacation destination; it's our backyard. It is the economy that keeps us thriving and the relationships that keep our hearts full. This shoreline is a home we happen to share with millions of visitors each year, and we've learned that taking care of one another is vital to keeping our area strong and prosperous.
Community Resources & Non-Profits
Helping Hands Inland
Helping Hands Inland
Beyond individual acts of kindness, our area is home to many wonderful organizations dedicated to caring for neighbors in need. These include nonprofits focused on long-term advocacy as well as those equipped for immediate assistance. Organizations like the Baldwin County Child Advocacy Center, the Sea Glass Initiative, and the South Baldwin Literacy Council provide counseling and legal assistance to child victims of abuse, combat housing insecurity, and offer essential literacy resources to both children and adults. This is just a snapshot of the support available on the Alabama Gulf Coast; dozens of other organizations work tirelessly every day to improve the lives of our residents. These groups rely on local funding and volunteers to sustain their missions. Whether it's offering financial support, helping at a local event, or spending a few hours a month tutoring, your involvement creates a ripple effect of success across the county.
I know firsthand how rewarding this work can be. A little over three years ago, I joined a committee at the Baldwin County Child Advocacy Center to help increase fundraising efforts in South Baldwin. Volunteering my time and resources to the BCCAC has enriched my life in ways I never could have imagined.
Meeting Immediate Needs
Meeting Immediate Needs
When it comes to immediate, tangible needs, the Christian Service Center in Gulf Shores is a local mainstay. They provide food, clothing, emergency financial aid, and even Christmas gifts for neighbors in crisis throughout Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Fort Morgan.
Similarly, volunteers for the Blessed to Blessing Boxes program have installed 17 "micro-pantries" across our coastal towns. These boxes provide 24/7 access to food and supplies for anyone in a pinch. The program operates on a simple mission: "Take what you need, bring what you can." It is a grassroots effort that thrives entirely on the generosity of residents and businesses.
