Alabama Gulf Coast

How I Spent 48 Hours with My Husband in Gulf Shores

Visiting Gulf Shores and Orange Beach is always an amazing experience.

Whether you are traveling solo or on a girl’s getaway, this stretch of the Alabama Gulf Coast is the perfect spot to relax. But in my opinion, there is nothing quite like taking my husband on a weekend getaway to experience the very best of the Gulf coast.

From a romantic evening onboard the Perdido Queen Dinner Cruise to sampling the finest local cuisine, a weekend getaway with the husband in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach is one of the best experiences for every couple looking to escape for a few days. Let’s take a look at some of the best things to do for couples during a 48-hour getaway.

Brick & Spoon

Starting the day off on a good breakfast is key, especially when it comes from Brick and Spoon. Bananas in Pajamas is a personal favorite, while creating a unique Bloody Mary concoction is an experience not to be missed.

One of the reasons Gulf Shores and Orange Beach is an attractive destination is there are many things to do that perhaps you wouldn’t normally think about. Head over to The Clay Studio at the Coastal Arts Center for a “hands-on” experience creating a masterpiece and learning from some of the best teachers on the Gulf coast. The Clay Studio offers a fun opportunity for couples to master the art of creative design using clay and also admire some of the unique works of art on display inside the studio.

The Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail is a great way for couples to enjoy the best natural environment in the area. Hop on a bike rental at Beach Biked Rentals or put on your favorite walking shoes to appreciate nature’s finest species that flourish in this part of Alabama. Distinctive ecosystems can be seen throughout the trails, while this is the perfect way to burn a few calories after indulging in the delicious cuisine.

After an afternoon of activity, head over to Bayes Southern Bar and Grill to enjoy a few appetizers and drinks before an evening onboard the Perdido Queen Dinner Cruise. What better way to experience the epic sunset than onboard a boat! A delicious buffet offering local cuisine is prepared for those onboard, while live entertainment is always available to set the mood and admire the breathtaking scenery of the bay.

If the bread pudding onboard isn’t enough to satisfy your sweet tooth, head over to Matt’s Homemade Alabama Ice Cream for some of the best flavors in the area.

Luna's Eat & Drink in Orange Beach

Day Two

While the first day was all about staying active and enjoying the sights and sounds of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, the second half of a weekend getaway is about relaxation. Wake up early to enjoy a morning stroll along the 32 miles of pristine, white-sand beaches and admire the gorgeous sunrise, which is equally impressive as the sunset the night before. Trust us when we say, it’s worth the effort to wake up early!

Spend some time relaxing on the beach or by the pool before heading over to the infamous Ruby Slipper Café for a late brunch. If you love traditional southern fare, The Ruby Slipper Cafe will certainly deliver above your expectations. Enjoy the best Eggs Benedict on the beach among many other delicious options.

Following a morning soaking in the sun, why not spend the afternoon learning all about the rich history along this stretch of the Alabama Gulf Coast by heading over to Fort Morgan to enjoy a self-guided tour of this bastion fort in the mouth of Mobile Bay. This Civil War masonry fort dates back more than 150 years and is full of history worth exploring.

Dinner at Luna’s Eat & Drink is perhaps the best way to end your action-packed weekend in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Luna’s eclectic menu offers something for every visitor. Get your fill of Southern comfort food with a twist.

Gulf Shores and Orange Beach is the perfect weekend getaway destination for couples. Relaxation, fun in the sun, hands-on experiences and much more create the perfect itinerary for couples to enjoy the very best of Alabama’s Gulf coast.
