Wheelchair-Accessible Lodging

in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach

Alabama's Beaches are home to some of the most gorgeous beaches and views of the Gulf. Here, you will find white sandy beaches, amazing restaurants, and tons of great shopping and entertainment venues. This area is my annual go-to destination to both unwind and relax.

Every year, I find myself loving the destination even more than I did the year before, as there are constantly new things to see and do. As a person who uses a wheelchair, it can sometimes be a little more challenging to book accessible vacation rentals and hotels, but not here! There are plenty of options to find the perfect place that fits your needs. Here are my favorite places to stay in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Fort Morgan.

Wheelchair-Accessible Lodging in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach

Oasis 803

Oasis 803

Located in Orange Beach, Oasis 803 is one of my favorite wheelchair-accessible vacation rentals. It is a 3-bed, 4-bath condo that can sleep up to 10 guests. It’s located on the 8th floor, with accessible parking available on the same level. The spacious living area features floor-to-ceiling Gulf views and a large balcony with a ramp for easy access.

The master bath has a roll-in shower, roll-under sink, raised toilet, and plenty of grab bars. A Hoyer lift and a shower chair with wheels are also provided, so just bring your sling. The living room has a lift chair for extra comfort. Outside, you’ll find a ramp to the beach, with beach wheelchair rentals available for delivery from businesses like Beach ‘N Buggys.

The Lodge at Gulf State Park

The Lodge at Gulf State Park

Located right on the beach, The Lodge at Gulf State Park is one of my favorite wheelchair-accessible hotels in Gulf Shores. It is surrounded by nature and connected to the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail, which is entirely wheelchair-friendly. The Lodge has around 30 ADA-compliant rooms, many with roll-in showers, grab bars, and beds with enough clearance for a Hoyer lift.

I also appreciate the zero-entry pool as I can roll right in without needing extra assistance. The ramp to the beach makes getting to the water simple. It’s one of those places where I don’t have to stress about accessibility because everything just works the way it should.

Hilton Garden Inn Orange Beach

Hilton Garden Inn Orange Beach is a beachfront property and is another one of my favorites for accessibility. The wheelchair-accessible hotel rooms include roll-in showers and beds with space underneath that works perfectly for using a Hoyer lift.

I also love that both the pool and hot tub have lifts, so getting into the water takes no extra effort. There’s even beach wheelchair access from the parking garage, making it simple to roll straight to the sand.

Hotel Indigo

Hotel Indigo

Hotel Indigo sits right across the street from the beach and includes a wheelchair-accessible path to the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail. It’s a clean, pet-friendly hotel that feels modern and comfortable. I’ve stayed in the wheelchair-accessible hotel suite on the first floor, which includes a roll-in shower, pull-under sink, and a king-sized bed with space for a Hoyer lift.

The living room also has a pull-out sofa, and I love that the indoor pool has a lift while the outdoor pool offers zero-entry access. Plus, having a coffee shop and smoothie bar right next door is always a nice bonus.

This wheelchair-friendly vacation home has a ramped entry and wide doorways, making it easy to move around in a wheelchair.

Inside, everything is on one level, including a roomy kitchen and living area. The main bedroom features a roll-in shower, a shower chair, grab bars, and a Hoyer lift that can easily roll under the queen-sized bed.
