Gulf Shores is home to the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, otherwise known as "The Little Zoo That Could" after being the subject of an Animal Planet documentary by the same name. The Zoo opened at a brand-new location in March 2020, the first new zoo built in the U.S. in more than 20 years, in a state-of-the-art facility much better suited to support its mission of promoting conservation and wildlife education to locals and visitors. The zoo’s resident sloths, and lemurs charm guests during animal adventures which allow you to get up close while learning how conservation practices can help protect the animals' habitats in the wild.
