Big Fish and Big Money at the Orange Beach Billfish Classic
Bragging rights are up for grabs at the annual Orange Beach Billfish Classic taking place May 14-18 at The Wharf in Orange Beach. Anglers from all over will vie for the title, which means big fish and big bucks as they attempt to catch the biggest billfish
in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Orange Beach Billfish Classic is part of the Gulf Coast Triple Crown Series. The top team in the Triple Crown is awarded a custom six-foot marlin trophy. In the OBBC, teams will compete for more than $350,000. At the 2013 event, the Done Deal, with Captain Jon Gonsoulin, earned bragging rights with a blue marlin weighing 408 pounds.
If you're not reeling in the big one, watch the weigh-in at The Wharf on Friday, May 16 from 7 to 10 p.m. and on Saturday, May 17 from 6 to 10 p.m. Registered anglers will be treated to an awards brunch on Sunday morning, as well as other fun and food-filled events!
The OBBC is the country's only non-profit billfish tournament. One hundred percent of the tournament's net profit is donated to conservation organizations.
