Clear surf and umbrellas along Alabama's White Sand Beaches

Celebrate the End of Summer with a Labor Day Beach Vacation

Still too many items on your summer bucket list? Visit Alabama’s beaches this Labor Day to check them off.

Labor Day weekend signals the end of summer and what better place to say “farewell” to your favorite season than Alabama’s sugar-white sand beaches? Our destination is teeming with activities and adventures to check off your summer bucket list.

Four Summer Bucket List Activities to Do Over Labor Day Weekend

Waterville USA

Soak Up the Sun

For many of us, Labor Day marks the end of schedule-free weekends. During the summer, there’s no homework or after-school activities. Our calendars are (mostly) clear until after Labor Day. So, we suggest taking time over the weekend to relax and soak up the sun on our 32 miles of coastline. Bring a book, some beach toys for the kids, and enjoy coastal breezes while you check that last summer read off your list.

Get Your Adrenaline Pumping

There’s nothing more fun than doing a heart-pumping adventure with the whole family as an end-of-summer celebration. Fortunately, we’ve got plenty of activities to choose from, including parasailing, diving, taking flight in a gyroplane, riding water slides at Waterville USA, or Segwaying through Gulf State Park. Choose the adrenaline-pumping summer bucket list item that fits the size and ages of your group, then prepare yourself for an experience you’ll never forget!

Charter fishing in Orange Beach AL

Reel in a Big Catch

Many who have visited Gulf Shores and Orange Beach dream of the day they’re the ones to reel in the biggest catch of the day. Give yourself the chance to do just that by booking a deep-sea charter fishing trip with one of our area providers. In September, you’re still able to recreationally fish for the legendary red snapper, which can grow to be three feet in length and 35 lbs. in weight. We also recommend checking out the weigh-ins for the Mobile Big Game Fishing Club’s Labor Day Invitational for fishing fanatics. They’ll have weigh-ins from 5-9 pm on Saturday, Sept. 4 and 3-6 pm on Sunday, Sept. 5.

Watch Fireworks and Ride Roller Coasters at OWA Amusement Park

On Saturday, Sept. 4, head over to nearby Foley for the Labor Day Celebration & Fireworks at OWA Amusement Park. The park houses dozens of thrilling rides, as well as restaurants, an arcade and shops for people of all ages. During their celebration, the fireworks begin at 8:45pm, giving you and your crew plenty of daylight to explore the park’s other offerings.

As you can see, there’s lots of last-minute summer fun to be had along our shores over Labor Day. Visit our events calendar for more information on local happenings.
