New Beach Meeting Venues Top List of a Busy Year

Last year was a busy year on Alabama's beaches and 2017 is shaping up to be just as interesting. Over the last year, the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism sales team helped bring in hundreds of events and welcomed the opening of new venues.

The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama

With a combination of state and regional association groups, as well as educational and corporate meetings, the sales team secured 222 meetings and conventions in 2016. To accommodate the Alabama Gulf Coast’s growth as a destination meeting location, the team welcomed new lodging options including the SpringHill Suites by Marriott at The Wharf. The hotel features 132 guest suites and is within walking distance to the Orange Beach Event Center, as well as dining and entertainment options at The Wharf. The venue offers 3,000 square feet of meeting space, as well as complimentary wi-fi and a resort-style pool. Also new in 2016 was The Tides Hotel, a Best Western Premier property. This beachfront, dog-friendly hotel offers 86 guest rooms, as well as a grab-and-go deli, complimentary hot breakfast, free wi-fi and a beachside pool. In addition, The Tides Hotel meeting room can accommodate up to 30 people, making it ideal for a board retreat or small-scale meeting.

Work continues on the upcoming Gulf State Park Convention Center. Slated for completion in late spring or early summer 2018, the center will replace the one destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. The new facility will boast convention space for up to 1,500 people, guest rooms, a restaurant, beachside pool and more.

In addition to new places, we also gained new faces in 2016 when the team welcomed Lane Vines as sales coordinator and Amy Peralta, CGMP, as sales manager. As a native of Orange Beach, Lane offers planners a wealth of knowledge and creative ideas. Her knowledge helps make the meeting planning process a breeze. Amy began her career in New Orleans and has 21 years of experience in the sales business. Her depth of area knowledge and understanding of the meeting planning process makes Amy a valuable asset to the sales department.
