Swim, Bike and Run to Alabama's Beaches in April

Start swimming, biking and running your way to triathlete shape now and showcase your skills in the Mullet Man Triathlon.

The Interstate Mullet Toss and Gulf Coast’s Greatest Beach Party is a yearly event that brings thousands of beachgoers to the Alabama Gulf Coast. During April 28-30, 2017, the annual flinging of fish on the sugar-white sand will take place once again behind the Flora-Bama Lounge & Oyster Bar. Those who participate in the toss will throw a dead mullet – the fish, not the haircut – over the state line from Florida to Alabama to see who can get it the farthest.

But before that, take part in a related – but more demanding – athletic opportunity. Start swimming, biking and running your way to triathlete shape now so you can showcase your skills in the Mullet Man Triathlon. Sign up now for this event that will race into town on Saturday, April 22, 2017.

Competitors must be prepared to swim a half mile in the spectacular Gulf of Mexico, immediately followed by a 17-mile bike ride on the paved four-lane Alabama Highway 182, and ending with a 4-mile run. Participants will compete in divisions that include age, weight and gender. A First Timers division is available for both men and women, making it ideal for those of you who are triathlon novices. Other divisions include age, weight and gender, so you’ll be competing with others in your category.

The post-race celebration will take place soon after the last person crosses the finish line, rewarding those who need to refuel and unwind after going the distance. Fantastic food and delicious drinks will be provided to all. A portion of the proceeds from the triathlon will go to local youth charities in Florida and Alabama, along with the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Team in training.

Visit the Flora-Bama website for information on how to sign up. Do you have what it takes to be a triathlete?
