As summer visitors are racing to the beach, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are preparing for upcoming race events along the coast. From now through the fall, athletes are training for triathlons, and planners are busy organizing some of the best races to hit the beach. Races on Alabama’s beaches draw unique crowds looking for a good time to serious participants trying to beat their best score. Whether you’re a serious competitor or run for fun, don’t miss these upcoming races on the Alabama Gulf Coast.

Brett Robinson Alabama Coastal Triathlon  Gulf Shores, AL

Run from the sharks at The Shark Run. Participants can choose from a flat 4-Mile All Road Race, Original Adventure Run where the course is half road and half sand, and a 1-Mile Adventure Run on the beach. If your race is in the sand, expect to dodge the “Sharks.” If a runner crosses the finish line with their flag football belt intact without a shark stealing it, they are eligible for awards. The Shark Run is July 4 at the Flora-Bama Lounge.

Tacky Jacks Bloody Mary 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run is all in good fun on a flat course through the Gulf Shores Waterway Village District. Tacky Jacks is a local favorite and an ideal location for an after party. Refresh after the big race with a Bloody Mary or a bushwhacker and enjoy waterfront views and incredible food. Tacky Jacks Bloody Mary 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run is Sept. 1 at Tacky Jacks Gulf Shores.

Brett Robinson Alabama Coastal Triathlon has the perfect backdrop for a Gulf swim, flat bike race and run course. For the 12th year in a row, The Brett-Robinson Alabama Coastal Triathlon will take place at the newly renovated public beach area in Gulf Shores. Enjoy a beachfront post-race party at The Hangout, where 59 ends and the fun begins. Brett Robinson Alabama Coastal Triathlon is Sept. 8 at Gulf Shores Main Public Beach.

Beach Marathons

Make-a-Wish Alabama 5K/Fun Run is an inaugural event for all ages. This fundraiser race benefits Make-a-Wish where children with life-threatening medical conditions can have their moment. Participants will appreciate the natural beauty of this course through the Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores. Make-a-Wish Alabama 5K/Fun Run is Sept. 22.

Shrimp Festival 10K and 5K supports and benefits children in local schools. This officially sanctioned event of the Annual National Shrimp Festival dates back to 1977. Produced by Coastal Alabama Business Chamber and dedicated volunteers, the 2018 race is Oct. 13 at Orange Beach Sportsplex.
