Must-Do Experiences in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach

Lemur encounter at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo

Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo

“We love checking out the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo and visiting the lemurs! It is so fun to go in by the lemurs and have them jump and run all around you. They may even sit on your lap and let you pet them.  We learned so much from the zookeepers about the lemurs and what we can do to help these amazing creatures survive and thrive out in the wild. We also enjoyed walking around the zoo and checking out the other animals that they have and even feeding some of them.”- Bryanna Royal, Crazy Family Adventure

Alabama's sugar-white sand beaches

The Beach

“My favorite way to summer in Gulf Shores is to get lots of beach walks every morning, and then eat all day and all night! The variety of restaurants and the views at all of them makes this literally my favorite place in the USA! I can't wait to go back!” - Heather Johnson, Food Hussy

Sand Castle University Gulf Shores, AL

Sand Castle University

“Gulf Shores has been a family favorite for years. It was the first big family vacation we took after my oldest was born. It was so overwhelming as a parent trying to decide where to vacation, then someone told us to go to the beach! That's what we did, and we found ourselves on the Alabama Gulf Coast. We have returned many times, as my children have grown we have added more to the agenda including learning how to properly build sandcastles with the ladies of Sand Castle University.” - Allison Taylor, Family Vacations U.S.

“For a fun day on the beach in Alabama, we recommend learning how to build sandcastles! We spent an hour with Janel from Sand Castle University learning the techniques to creating castles fit for the most elegant princesses. Now my sandcastles will no longer look like the ancient crumbling ruins of a lost city. The kids will love it, especially the warm, friendly nature of Janel. I enjoyed this activity far more than I thought I would, and it's the perfect way to bond as a family.” - Caroline Makepeace, yTravel Blog

The Gulf in Orange Beach, AL

“My favorite way to summer on Alabama's beaches is to visit as many restaurants as I can. From new spots to my standby favorites, I love eating well while I'm on vacation. Some of my favorites include The Gulf, Cobalt and Luna's Eat and Drink. With so many great places to enjoy, there's no need to waste precious relaxation time cooking. Moms, enjoy your vacation and don't step foot in the kitchen while you're at the beach!" - Sarah Gilliland, Sarah in the Suburbs

City Donut in Orange Beach, AL

Sunrises and City Donut

“I've developed a lovely morning tradition that I look forward to every time I visit Alabama's Beaches. I get up at sunrise and head out for a walk on the beach. It's such a quiet, relaxing time to enjoy the sugar-white sand. After my walk, I head to City Donut for my morning coffee and sweet treat!” - Shannon Entin, The TV Traveler

Dolphin Cruises

“If you’re looking for some adventure, my top recommendation is to go on a dolphin cruiseCetacean Cruises took us out on Wolf Bay where we were able to spot numerous dolphins. The captain also identified wildlife as we came across various species such as cormorant, loons, cattle egrets and more.  We learned a lot about the history of the area and had a ton of fun!” - Scarlet Paolicchi, Family Focus Blog

Alabama Extreme Watersports in Orange Beach, AL

Wave Runners and Fish Tacos

“Dolphin tours are always a popular vacation pastime and we found one that is perfect for adults or families with older children – Alabama Extreme Watersports dolphin tours on wave runners! My teen boys said it was one of the best tours they had ever taken. Not only did they like riding the wave runners, but our group was agile enough to move with the pod of five dolphins we saw as they swam around the bay looking for dinner. And if you need a fantastic lunch spot afterward, I highly recommend the Anchor Bar & Grill at Hudson Marina - best fish tacos I've ever had.” - Sue Rodman, 365 Atlanta Traveler
