Travel Blogger Shares Family Spring Break Tips
There’s no better place to spend spring break with your family than at the beautiful Alabama Gulf Coast beaches.

We are beach lovers and there is something fun for everyone to enjoy, whether you want to relax on the beach, go kayaking or spend an afternoon shopping.
One of our favorite Alabama beaches family excursions is boating. Sail Wild Hearts offers several options, including an amazing Kayak Adventure Snorkel Sail. My tween and teen both loved this experience and there was even impromptu hula-hooping aboard this spacious 53-foot catamaran! During the cruise, Wild Hearts drops anchor at a small island where you can kayak, paddleboard or snorkel. We enjoyed spotting dolphins during our sail, and the friendly and skilled crew strive to make this a fun experience for everyone on board.
If you’re looking to get back to nature, Wild NativeTours offers kayaking excursions from Gulf Shores. The Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge Kayak Tour is a 3-hour excursion into this 7,000-acre wildlife habitat for migratory birds, nesting loggerhead and Kemp’s ridley sea turtles and the endangered Alabama beach mouse. Named as one of the 10 natural wonders of Alabama, Bon Secour means “safe harbor” in French, and visiting this area is a great way to connect with nature. The experienced guides with Wild Natives are also extremely knowledgeable about this coastal dune ecosystem.
Sometimes you need a little break from the sand and surf. If you are heading inland after a day at the beach, The Track Family Recreation Center is a big hit with kids of all ages (and adults who are young at heart, as well!). My daughters loved the go-kart track and we all had a blast, literally, on the blaster boats, which I guarantee will put a memorable spin on traditional bumper cars. We always play mini golf when we go to the beach, and The Track offers a fun course for kids of all ages as well as a large video game arcade.

All this activity is going to stir up some strong appetites at the beach. Whether you crave seafood or burgers or everything in between while vacationing at the beach, the Alabama Gulf Coast boasts a wide range of restaurants sure to please everyone. Some of our family-friendly favorites include the always popular LuLu’s in Gulf Shores, which has tons of fun activities for kids while you wait for your table. Their burgers are mouthwatering and unforgettable, and there are plenty of adult drinks for Mom and Dad. I also highly recommend The Gulf, located in Orange Beach on Perdido Beach Boulevard just before the Perdido Pass bridge. The restaurant is constructed entirely from old shipping containers and there is a beachy area with funky inflatable furniture as well as rustic picnic tables that overlook the beautiful water. The gift shop at The Gulf is one of my favorites in the area, with eclectic jewelry, artwork and awesome T-shirts. Lastly, we love the Flora-Bama Yacht Club, located across from the famous Flora-Bama Bar. This open-air eatery overlooks Old River and serves great food in a super-casual environment. One dining experience here with your crew and you’ll see why it’s been mentioned in several travel publications, from Southern Living to Rolling Stone, as a must-do.
The Alabama Gulf Coast is the perfect spring break destination for the entire family! I’m sure your family will love it just as much as mine. Browse here for hot deals on lodging for your spring break vacation.
