Day 1
Breakfast
Breakfast
Kick off your beach vacation with a delicious breakfast at Woodside. Nestled inside Gulf State Park, this scenic spot serves amazing omelets, biscuits, and other breakfast classics with soul-filling southern sides. The kiddos will love the backyard atmosphere of the restaurant and playing ping pong, Jenga, horseshoes, and cornhole.
Morning
Morning
After you’ve finished eating, grab a few bikes from the free-bike sharing station in front of the restaurant. For up to three hours, you and your family can explore the 28 miles of paved and boardwalk trails within the park for free. Keep your eyes peeled for native wildlife and plant life as you cruise around. There are plenty of cool spots along the trails to check out, including a butterfly garden, parkour course, playground, the Nature Center, and Lake Shelby.
Lunch
Lunch
Now that you’ve worked up an appetite, it’s time for lunch. Tacky Jacks is a fantastic family-friendly restaurant in Gulf Shores known for its fun, laid-back vibe and mouthwatering shrimp. The walls are covered with bright duct tape signed by past guests. While you’re here, ask your server for a piece and a marker so that you can leave your mark at this iconic beach restaurant!
Afternoon
Afternoon
Get ready to start your engines! Bring your family to The Track for an afternoon of total excitement. This beloved Gulf Shores attraction is one of the best spots on Alabama’s Beaches to visit with your family, as it offers something for all ages. It features six go-kart tracks, blaster boats, a Skycoaster, a mini golf course, kids’ rides, and an arcade. Make plans to spend several hours here to experience all the fun!
Evening
Evening
Wind down your memorable first day of vacation by heading back to your accommodation for a casual dinner. Pick up something from a local restaurant that offers family meals or make a fresh dinner with one of Alabama’s Beaches coastal recipes. Once you’re finished, grab your flashlights and hit the beach for a nighttime crab hunt. After the sun goes down, tiny ghost crabs come out and run around the shoreline in search of food. These nocturnal crustaceans may be small, but they are quick. See how many your family can catch! Be sure to release them once before you leave the beach.
Day 2
Breakfast
Breakfast
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and you’ll definitely need your energy for day 2 of your family beach vacation. Alabama’s Beaches have so many amazing breakfast and brunch spots, but why not start your day with beach views? Coastal is a Gulf-front restaurant in Orange Beach that serves all its meals with a side of gorgeous beach views. The breakfast menu includes stuffed blueberry French toast, eggs Benedict, breakfast burritos and sandwiches, and a giant house-baked cinnamon roll.
Morning
Morning
Enjoy the beautiful waterways of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach by experiencing some of the wonderful watersports available in the area. Older kids will love flying over the waves on Jet Skis or zipping around on a banana boat. If you have little ones, rent two-seater kayaks and explore the calm back bays of Orange Beach while looking for wildlife. Another great way for the whole family to hit the water is with an electric, inflatable boat from Beachside Circle Boat. These unique vessels are inexpensive to rent, and the double-seater options are perfect for parents with young kids.
Lunch
Lunch
Grab a to-go lunch from a nearby restaurant and head to the beach for a family picnic by the shore. You can spread out towels and dine in the sand, or visit a public beach like The Pavilion or Gulf Place, which have shaded picnic areas. This is the ideal way to enjoy a casual, watermeal meal and recount all the fun you’ve had so far during your trip. And no one will judge you for taking a post-lunch nap on the beach.
Afternoon
Afternoon
Since you’re already at the beach, enjoy the rest of your afternoon by the water. You can pick up boogie boards, skim boards, and other beach toys for the kids at a local beach outfitter or grocery store. Four of the best kid-friendly beach accesses are Gulf Place, Cotton Bayou, The Pavilion, and Lagoon Pass Park. These public beaches include amenities such as restrooms, showers, and seasonal lifeguards. Be sure to bring sunscreen and a cooler full of drinks!
Evening
Evening
Seeing dolphins never gets old, no matter how old you are. Book a ride on a scenic and exciting sunset dolphin cruise at a local marina for a memorable vacation experience. The cruise’s captain will take the boat to the secret spots where dolphins like to hang out, so you and your family can get an up-close look. During your tour, you’ll see these friendly creatures swim, play, and maybe even jump out of the water to say hello! Sunset cruises are great because the weather is more comfortable, and the vibrant colors of the sky make the trip even more incredible.
Dinner
Dinner
Most area marinas have dining on-site, so after your cruise, grab dinner at a waterfront restaurant. You and the kids are bound to be hungry after an eventful day, and these spots boast incredibly fresh seafood (and coastal cocktails for the grownups). As you dine, you can watch the boats arriving back on shore after a day out in the Gulf, a great ending for another perfect day on Alabama’s Beaches.
Day 3
Breakfast
Breakfast
Since it’s your last day on vacation, take the time to enjoy a slow morning. You have another big day ahead, so take advantage of the opportunity to sleep in. Enjoy breakfast at your accommodation or swing by a nearby coffee shop for caffeine and pastries. If you’re an early riser, sip your coffee from your balcony and watch the sunrise or go for a peaceful stroll on the beach.
Morning
Morning
Now that you’re caffeinated, it’s time to begin day 3 of your beach trip. Round up the kids, and venture to the beach one last time to soak up some rays and dig your toes in the sand. The kids can swim, fly kites, look for shells, or play a few beach games while the adults sit back and relax or finish up a good beach read.
Lunch
Lunch
Continue to enjoy your time on the beach by having lunch at a Gulf-front restaurant. The “T” is a popular area in Gulf Shores, home to several great family-friendly beach restaurants, like Pink Pony Pub and The Hangout. Both of these Gulf Shores seafood restaurants are community staples, offering fabulous food and unforgettable atmospheres that adults and kids alike will love.
Afternoon

You can’t leave the beach without doing a little shopping and bringing home a few souvenirs. The Wharf in Orange Beach is the best area on the island to visit for shopping, dining, and entertainment, all in one place. This hot spot boasts dozens of local stores and national retailers selling clothes, gifts, shoes, décor, and specialty items. When you need a break from shopping, take a ride on The Wharf’s Ferris Wheel, get your game on at the arcade inside Arena, The Next Level, or test your skills at an escape room at Breakout Games.

While you’re at The Wharf, grab dinner at one of the many restaurants around the entertainment district. Visit Villaggio Grille for Italian, Ginny Lane’s for seafood and soul food, or Yoho Rum & Tacos for tacos and custom cocktails. If you just need a quick bite, The Southern Grind, The Beli, and Vinny’s Pizzeria are great options for kid-approved fast and casual dining.

Before you head back to your accommodation and wrap up your family vacation, step outside onto Main Street for The Wharf’s SPECTRA Laser Light Show. This dazzling display is a free nighttime show where brilliant lights and lasers light up The Wharf every night of the year. The lights are set to music, creating a magical experience for your eyes and ears. In summer, shows are at 7:30, 8:00, and 8:30 pm.
