Most of us envision going on beach vacations during the summer.
But in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, winter is the perfect season if you’re looking for a more relaxing and rejuvenating experience.
Before you start packing your bags, scroll down to learn what four things you should consider when planning a last-minute winter beach vacation.

Check for Seasonal Hours
We all have our standard favorite restaurants in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach that we can’t wait to visit every summer during vacation. During winter, though, some of those restaurants may close, but many more remain open albeit with seasonal hours. If your go-to dining option closes up shop for the winter, use this trip as a time to try out other local eateries. You never know when you’ll find your family’s new favorite restaurant. We recommend you reach out to your restaurants of choice for hours and other seasonal changes.
Cooler Weather = Cooler Waters
Although the Gulf may be too cold for swimming, you can still enjoy plenty of activities along our shoreline throughout the day. Whether it’s long walks on the beach in the morning, a sunset stroll at night, sandcastle building or a rousing game of beach volleyball, our coastal climate enables you to experience fun in the sun on Alabama's beaches well into the winter season. But if you’re dying to dip your toes in some water, many hotels, condos and resorts in the destination have heated indoor and outdoor pools for year-round swimming fun.

Fewer Crowds
Like we have said before, many don’t envision going on beach vacations in the winter which is why winter is a slower season on our shores. If you’re one who loves to get off the beach and explore the destination, this is a great time for you. Dive into history at Fort Morgan Historic Site. Take a leisurely stroll to explore nature at Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. Shop ‘til you drop at The Wharf. Or get a head start on your New Year’s resolution by biking, booking a yoga class or getting out on the golf courses. These are all popular activities to do in the destination, so take advantage of the smaller crowds and do them all!
Score a Deal
Winter beach vacations mean lower rates, resulting in big fun. Because you are able to save on accommodations, you will have more money to spend visiting local attractions and restaurants or trying a new activity like deep-sea fishing or taking a Segway tour.
