GULF SHORES AND ORANGE BEACH, ALA. – The just announced Coastal Alabama Back Bay Blueway takes visitors on a full tour through Coastal Alabama’s unique waterways and exceptional ecosystems. With a total of 21 launch sites on four distinct trails, the Back Bay Blueway offers adventure lovers the scenic views and pristine beaches they love- experienced like never before.
On Fort Morgan Trail, navigate around the Mobile and Bon Secour Bays taking in the historic sights of Fort Morgan. Keep an eye out for rare wildlife such as migratory birds and dolphins.
Avid fishermen will find a diverse array of salt and freshwater fish along the Little Lagoon trail including trout, flounder and redfish. Fish right from a kayak or from one of the sandy beaches that line the lagoon.
Get up close and personal with nature on a cruise through Gulf State Park Trail and its seven unique ecosystems. Spots around Lake Shelby and Middle Lake are perfect for camping, lying on the beach, and discovering local flora and fauna.
Start the trek through Orange Beach/Wolf Bay Trail at one of 13 launch sites and end the trip at one of several waterfront restaurants around Cotton Bayou and Terry Cove. Along the way, tour around Robinson and Bird Island where you can catch a glimpse of the Gulf of Mexico on the horizon.
The Coastal Alabama Back Bay Blueway is sponsored by Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism, Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium, The Alabama Cooperative Extension System, and NOAA. Funding for this project is provided by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, in part by a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
