Get Ready to Swim, Bike and Run at the Mullet Man Triathlon
Gulf Shores & Orange Beach
Every year, thousands upon thousands of visitors flock to the Gulf Coast's biggest beach bash at the Flora-Bama Lounge & Oyster Bar. The legendary Interstate Mullet Toss and Gulf Coast's Greatest Beach Party is on the books for April 22-24 this year.
If you’ve never been there, you don’t know what you’re missing! Those who participate in the Mullet Toss will throw a dead mullet – the fish, not the haircut – over the state line of Florida and Alabama to see who can get it the farthest.
But there’s more to the Mullet Toss than just flinging a fish. The Mullet Man Triathlon serves as a fantastic warm-up to the highly anticipated Shindig on the Sand. On Saturday, April 16, triathletes will have a great opportunity to showcase their swimming, cycling and running skills.
The challenging course will incorporate the magnificent Gulf of Mexico behind the Flora-Bama Lounge for the half-mile swim, as well as a 17-mile bike ride on the paved four-lane Alabama Highway 182, and finally, a 4.2-mile run. Triathletes will compete in divisions that include age, weight and gender. If you’re a novice to this type of competition, you won’t be alone. There will be a First Timers division available to both men and women who are ready to show they can go the distance.
