Meet Two Travel Bloggers Who Love Alabama's Beaches

If there were frequent-flyer miles for beaches, these two bloggers might just max out. Get to know them here.

Locals know the hidden treasure that is Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Our friends Sara Broers and Becky Beall may not be locals, but they know and appreciate that treasure and share the news with their fans, followers and blog readers.

Sara and Becky are travel bloggers who get to experience a lot of fun and interesting places, and if you ask them, they’d tell you that Alabama’s beaches rank high on their list of favorite destinations.

Sara Broers

Sara, of Travel with Sara, started blogging in 2009. Her favorite part of being a travel writer is meeting people in the destinations she works with – and her motto is “Ask a local, they know!” Sara often visits destinations multiple times. “I love revisiting a destination that I have fallen in love with. Any time of the year is great for a destination that I have fallen in love with,” she said. Sara’s first visit to Alabama’s beaches was in December of 2014 and she says The Wharf really knows how to usher in the holiday season.

What’s your favorite beach memory/moment? My favorite beach memory would be walking along the beach, with a bird walking right next to me.

What is your top tip for planning a getaway to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach? Visit during a shoulder season to save a little bit of money, yet have great weather. And go hungry, as the food is out of this world.

Why are you drawn to Alabama’s beaches? I love the beauty and cleanliness of the beaches. I also love the fact that the Alabama beaches offer affordable lodging and housing options. The nature experiences combined with adventure and a beach make for a win/win destination.

What makes Alabama’s beaches different from other destinations? The fine, sugar sand is something that you do not find anywhere, and again, they are clean beaches. I have seen many beaches and the Alabama beaches have a unique feel, while offering a beach to call home.

Favorite restaurant: The Gulf! It offers the best burger on the beach!

Favorite attraction: My new-to-me favorite attraction is Alabama’s Coastal Connection. This drive combines the beach, nature and history! Take two full days to enjoy this drive.

Favorite activity: Riding a Segway with Coastal Segway Adventures through the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail. The fact is, I am not good at riding a Segway, yet I had the experience of a lifetime and talk about it all the time.

Favorite lodging option: The Beach Club, as it’s located off the beaten path and offers a hop, skip and a jump to the beach.

Becky Beall

Becky, of The Travel Voice by Becky, has been a travel writer for 20 years and a blogger for five of those. Her favorite part of being a travel writer is “seeing the landscapes of the world and the people that make them special.” Even before Becky was a travel writer, she was no stranger to Gulf Shores. Her first visit to Alabama’s beaches was as a teenager; she said when she saw them, she was “forever smitten.

What’s your favorite beach memory/moment? Wow . . . there are SO many! We have been to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, milestones, graduations, spring breaks, etc. But I will say that a very special memory was about three years ago, my husband and I snuck off for a weekend away during the winter and ended up in Gulf Shores. It was quiet, cool but not cold, and we ate at our favorite restaurants without a wait, enjoyed the beach to ourselves (albeit in sweatshirts) and watched the sun set from our balcony. We didn’t do anything special or particular but just spent the weekend being together.

What is your top tip for planning a getaway to Alabama’s beaches? Know your budget and plan ahead. I truly believe people spend half of their precious vacation time trying to decide where to go, where to eat and what activities to do. Do a little research and make a list of restaurants you really want to dine at, activities you must do and places you really want to stay.

Why are you drawn to Alabama’s beaches? The sheer beauty of sugar-white sand juxtaposing emerald waters is simply breathtaking and I never tire of it, no matter the season.

What makes Alabama’s beaches different from other destinations? For me, the nostalgia that comes with the familiarity. For folks who’ve never visited, they’ll note the difference to be how beautiful the beaches are. Most folks think of beaches in terms of brown sand and a more clay-like substance. Visitors from near and far come back for the natural beauty and the culinary scene founded on fresh seafood.

Favorite restaurant: That’s really hard because there are so many. Weekend brunches are the best at Bill’s by the Beach, family dinners are awesome at LuLu’s and special times are celebrated at Cobalt, The Restaurant.

Favorite attraction: The Ferris wheel at The Wharf.

Favorite activity: Sunset sail.

Favorite lodging option: The hotel would be Perdido Beach Resort and favorite condo would have to be Turquoise Place.
