There’s nothing more exciting than experiencing the excitement of Mardi Gras, and we let the good times all season long on Alabama's Beaches. Mardi Gras brings lots of amazing events and parades to our shores, but there’s more than just catching beads. Many local restaurants and bars celebrate by offering an array of unique and delicious food and drinks. From cocktails and coffees to desserts, here are the best Mardi Gras-inspired foods on Alabama's Beaches during the festive season.

Beach Girl Coffee

Before you spend the day lining up for parades, get a caffeine fix at Beach Girl Coffee. During Mardi Gras, this cute shop serves its signature king cake iced coffee with purple, yellow, and green sprinkles. A local favorite, this drink is a perfect way to kick off your day or keep yourself energized while celebrating.

Speaking of starting the morning off on the right foot, you can never go wrong with brunch at Another Broken Egg. One of our favorite breakfast dishes is the Mardi Gras Omelet. This savory omelet is served all year long, filled with crawfish, shrimp, andouille sausage, and red peppers and topped with tomato hollandaise, green onions, and tomatoes. The perfect Mardi Gras food for breakfast, it offers a taste of Louisiana cuisine while at the beach.

King Cake Milkshake

Milkshake Momma in Orange Beach takes ice cream to a whole new level, and during Mardi Gras, they’re offering an impressive king cake freakshake. This massive, creamy creation features a milkshake with yellow, purple, and green food coloring and pieces of king cake mixed in. It’s topped with a slice of cream cheese king cake, whipped cream, sprinkles, and beads - all the Mardi Gras magic! We suggest sharing this delicious dessert.

Kreweser Amber Ale

If you prefer brews to cocktails, pay a visit to Big Beach Brewing. Offered for a limited time during the weekend before and week of Fat Tuesday, Big Beach crafts a Kreweser amber ale, a slightly malty ale found only at the brewery. Try it on tap and enjoy some tunes from the stage, or pick up a can or two from the fridge and take it to go.

Nothing screams Southern Louisiana more than jambalaya, so it’s no surprise that many people like to have them during Mardi Gras. Acme Oyster House serves this delicious dish with smoked sausage, chicken, and seasoned rice. This spot offers several other great New Orleans-inspired dishes like po’boys, red beans, and rice, and seafood étouffée, so you can enjoy traditional Mardi Gras food in an entire meal here.

You can’t celebrate Mardi Gras without having a daiquiri or a daiquiri flight. High Tide Daiquiris & Mimosas serves an irresistible gold, green, and purple King Cake Daiquiri topped with edible gold glitter. This family-friendly spot serves mocktails, so those under 21 can enjoy this frozen drink, too. If you’re craving a little caffeine, you’ll also find a king cake iced coffee on the menu.

Bushwackers are a staple of Alabama's Beaches, and this Mardi Gras, you can find a king cake version of this creamy cocktail at several spots. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the bushwacker, we asked local restaurants and bars to craft Mardi Gras bushwackers for the month of February, and they delivered! Stop by one of the participating places and try one of these festive concoctions. You may even find a baby in your glass!

End the season with a warm bowl of seafood gumbo and a festive soiree at LuLu’s. Each year, this popular restaurant hosts its annual Mardi Gras celebration with a big party and boat parade on Fat Tuesday. You can order LuLu’s delicious gumbo anytime, but what better time to enjoy this coastal delicacy than at a Mardi Gras party?

Of course, you can't celebrate the season without eating a few king cakes, and BuzzCatz Coffee and Sweets is the prime place to grab these delicious desserts.
